Life Beyond the Impact Factor: The Promise and Perils of Article Level Metrics
For decades, scholars - and those who evaluate them - have had a limited set of options when it comes to metrics to measure the impact of their work. As scholarship has moved deeper into the digital realm, new opportunities to track its reach and utility have been created. New metrics are arising that can tell us something about scholarly works on a much more granular level than ever before. These article level metrics hold the promise to help tell a much richer story about a scholars work than a single measure could ever hope to do.
A panel of experts will explore what these emerging alternative metrics look like, how they work, and how they are being used. They'll also discuss both the promise and potential pitfalls of applying these measures in the research evaluation, tenure and promotion processes.
Join SPARC and ACRL for the 10th Annual Forum, which will take place on Saturday, January 26th at 3pm at the Washington State Convention Center Room 606-607.
