Open Education Week kicked off today with a briefing on Capitol Hill sponsored by the bipartisan Congressional E-Learning Caucus. Leading open education experts and college campus leaders discussed how K-12 and higher education systems can leverage open educational resources (OER) to reduce the cost of textbooks, improve student outcomes, and fuel the economy with a better educated workforce.

SPARC today applauded Representatives Rubén Hinojosa (D-TX) and George Miller (D-CA) for introducing a House companion bill for the Affordable College Textbook Act, which was introduced in the Senate last week.

Section 303 of the bill would undercut the ability of federal agencies to effectively implement the widely supported White House Directive.
