Research is more valuable when it's shared

5. Resources for Publishers
Developing a sound business model is a critical concern of publishers considering open-access distribution. Selecting the model appropriate to a particular journal will depend not only on the expense hurdle that must be cleared, but also on the publisher’s mission objectives, size, business management resources, risk tolerance, tax status, and institutional or corporate affiliation.

6. SPARC Resources for Students
Join us online or in-person Thursday, January 17th at 12pm PST for a conversation with Jorge Cham of PhD Comics live from UCSF's Rock Hall! Jorge, who started PhD Comics while completing his PhD at Stanford, is the animator behind Open Access Explained!, which has already seen over 125,000 views since its release during Open Access Week. He will discuss his evolving view of Open Access, how it changed while making “Open Access Explained!”, and explore lingering questions with Heather Joseph, Executive Director of SPARC, and Jonathan Eisen, an evolutionary biologist at UC Davis and chair of the PLOS Biology Advisory Board.
Both the webcast and the in-person event are open to all; however, registration is required. More information and a link to register can be found at www.bit.ly/oaexplored.
